In Japan, the English as a foreign language (EFL) classroom may have students with dyslexia or who exhibit dyslexic tendencies (DT). Though awareness is growing, official recognition and support for students with dyslexia and DT remains limited. As inclusive education continues to grow in popularity in Japan, accommodating students with learning disabilities such as dyslexia will be a necessary part of curriculum development. \n In this paper, I discuss ways that EFL teachers can analyze and modify reading activities to support students with DT. I analyzed reading passages from popular EFL textbooks using Text Inspector software to determine whether modifications to the reading materials were necessary to accommodate students with DT. The results of the Text Inspector analysis showed that some reading activities in popular textbooks were more difficult than publishers advertise. I also give examples of effective ways in which reading materials can be modified to support students with DT and improve outcomes in the EFL classroom. Modifications based on previously published guidelines to reading materials include word choice, formatting changes, and presenting materials with visual aids.","subitem_description_language":"en","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_1617186643794":{"attribute_name":"Publisher","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"福岡女学院大学英語教育研究センター","subitem_publisher_language":"ja"},{"subitem_publisher":"Centre for the Study of English Language Teaching, Fukuoka Jo Gakuin University","subitem_publisher_language":"en"}]},"item_1617186702042":{"attribute_name":"Language","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"eng"}]},"item_1617186920753":{"attribute_name":"Source Identifier","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"27590364","subitem_source_identifier_type":"EISSN"}]},"item_1617187056579":{"attribute_name":"bibliographic_information","attribute_value_mlt":[{"bibliographicIssueDates":{"bibliographicIssueDate":"2025-03","bibliographicIssueDateType":"Issued"},"bibliographicNumberOfPages":"12","bibliographicPageEnd":"12","bibliographicPageStart":"1","bibliographicVolumeNumber":"13","bibliographic_titles":[{"bibliographic_title":"The Centre for the Study of English Language Teaching JOURNAL","bibliographic_titleLang":"en"}]}]},"item_1617258105262":{"attribute_name":"item_1617258105262","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"departmental bulletin paper","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]},"item_1617265215918":{"attribute_name":"Version Type","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_version_resource":"http://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85","subitem_version_type":"VoR"}]},"item_1617604990215":{"attribute_name":"File","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_access","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2025-03-31"}],"fileDate":[{"fileDateType":"Issued","fileDateValue":"2025-03"}],"filename":"CSELT013001.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"224 KB"}],"format":"application/pdf","url":{"url":"https://fukujo.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/2000932/files/CSELT013001.pdf"},"version_id":"4f669a78-a60c-4ac7-9f5f-1a3745599eb2"}]},"item_1623818042585":{"attribute_name":"identifier_registration","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_identifier_reg_text":"10.60461/0002000932","subitem_identifier_reg_type":"JaLC"}]},"item_title":"Analyzing and Modifying Reading Activities for Japanese EFL Students with Dyslexic Tendencies","item_type_id":"40001","owner":"9","path":["1719218443340"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"PubDate","attribute_value":"2025-03-31"},"publish_date":"2025-03-31","publish_status":"0","recid":"2000932","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["Analyzing and Modifying Reading Activities for Japanese EFL Students with Dyslexic Tendencies"],"weko_creator_id":"9","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2025-03-31T04:06:41.951268+00:00"}
